JAMES. To start off the new year in Thail-nd we were greeted with some terrible news. As we shared in our last pr-yer request, KJ’s father has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer that has metastasised into the liver. His body has been shutting down and the doctors have given him weeks to live. To top that off, three weeks ago he suffered a massive heart attack resulting in 80% damage to his heart.
We jumped on an emergency flight home to the UK to say our goodbyes and hoped ‘dad' would stay alive long enough for us to make it to his bedside. They almost lost him a few times while we were in the air desperately trying to get to the hospital in time. KJ’s father, James had told the nurses “Keep me alive just so I can see my daughter and son in law”. We arrived in time and said our emotional goodbyes. After about an hour James was tired and wanted to rest. We went to the coffee shop not knowing if we would possibly loose him even then. We were gone about 45 minutes and when we returned, to our surprise ‘Pops’ was sitting up with a smile on his face eating breakfast. Praise G-d!
James is still very much alive and kicking. He is now at home with home health and hospice care. The reality is KJ’s father is terminal with cancer. We feel we have been able to say our goodbyes and spend quality time together. We now leave the rest in G-ds' hands. We are believing for a miracle but also prepared that G-d may just take him home. And home, as we know, is where we will all receive that ultimate miracle of perfection and completion in Chr-st.
A NEW YEAR. Can you believe we are already sailing into the third month of 2014? It is crazy how things go by so quickly. Our Visa’s are due to expire in the summer and so once again decisions, decisions, need to be made. We have been seeking G-d and praying for direction. Our hearts desire is to still move back into the mountains of Ch-na but for now that is still not possible, mostly due to finances. We do need to return to the USA to renew our Visa’s in the summer/ fall. And so we have decided to commit another year to stay in Thailand with our main focus still on the Ch-nese people.
TOURISTS. We have seen a mass move of Ch-nese tourists coming into Thailand. It is quite amazing to see. TJ and I passed the elephant camps the other day as we were out for a drive on the scooter and a caravan of Ch-nese vehicles passed us on the road. From the license plates we could tell most of the vehicles had come from the same province and region that we have worked and lived in, in Ch-na. We waived at them and yelled and “Xin N-an K-ai Le!” (Happy Ch-nese New Year) to them. Quite surprised coming from the little foreign white girl on the back of a scooter. We have many ideas and we are looking into possible ways to reach the Ch-nese tourists with the G-spel. We are still working out the kinks and details but we have a group that may ship us some material for this project. We will keep you updated on this as it develops.
CH-NA AND LAO-S. We are planning to visit Ch-na and the Tib-tan region to attend our friend’s wedding. While there we will be catching up with our co-workers and others that we have relationships with. We will head back to Thail-nd overland through southern Ch-na and Lao-s. We know the roads well and have travelled them extensively in the past. We have reports of Ch-nese tourists, businessmen and students making this journey into Thail-nd. We want to scout out the region and see if there are possibilities for evang-lism and relationships throughout this area.
THANK YOU! We have been through a lot recently and want to send a personal thank you to you all. You really are our lifeline and encouragement to keep doing what we are doing. Getting on the plane after saying our goodbyes to ‘dad’ was one of the hardest things ever. Through this recent shock and ordeal we have both cleaved to G-d. This came out of the blue and hit us sideways and yet this could happen to any one of us. This kind of shock makes you look at and re-evaluate your priorities. We want to live each day as though it is our last and live everyday in the fullness and love that Chr-st has called us into.
