We are heading into Ch*na again. This trip is a very different trip and we ask for your pr*yers.
THE SITUATION - B*rma/ My*nmar has been under military control since 1962. During this time, the UN and several other organizations have reported consistent and systematic human rights violations in the country, including genocide, the use of child soldiers, rape, child labor, slavery, human trafficking and lack of freedom of speech.
The military began relinquishing more of its control over the government since 2011. The country's foreign relationships have improved rapidly, especially with major powers such as the USA, Japan and the European Union. B*rma is a country rich in precious stones, oil, natural gas and other mineral resources. Trade and other sanctions have now been eased.
THE PROBLEM - Despite the government having more control, there are major parts of B*rma still fighting for their lives against the military. There are conflicting rumors that the government is nothing but a puppet.
Since last year, fighting and conflict has increased in the K*chin State. January produced some of the worst reports of human rights violations (mentioned above) being committed by the B*rm*se Army, even on civilians. K*chin State borders Ch*na and is close to the region we lived in. Many K*chin have flooded the borderlands of B*rma and have become IDP’s (Internally Displaced Peoples) or refugees in Ch*na.
THE SITUATION - We are heading into Ch*na this month to try and help with food, medical supplies and aid. Many of the K*chin are Chr*stian brothers and sisters. We hope to hear first hand of their stories and testi monies. We will have some B*bles and find out the need for more in the future. Most important of all we want to encourage, pr*y and give hope to all who are suffering.
We ask that you pr*y for us. Ch*na is still very much a hostile country and has refused much aid from the international community. We are a very small group used to doing covert work and this is our only advantage against the odds. Please pr*y for divine appointments, G’s favor, open doors and protection.
